CONSTRUCTION OF THE DOBRIKA–ROGAČ CONNECTING QUAY AS PART OF THE PORT OF ŠIBENIK PORT AREA MODERNIZATION PROJECT
The construction of the Dobrika–Rogač connecting quay represents the first phase of the modernization of the Port of Šibenik and an important step towards enhancing its cargo-handling capacity. Upon completion, the project will enable the accommodation of vessels with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of up to 5,000, facilitate Ro-Ro vessel operations, and provide new operational and cargo-handling areas.
The project includes the redevelopment of the currently unused area between the Dobrika and Rogač quays, including dredging of the basin to a depth of -10.20 m to ensure safe vessel berthing and manoeuvring.
As part of the project, a new cargo-handling platform will be constructed, sections of the existing railway infrastructure and operational areas at the Dobrika quay will be reconstructed, and the existing port facilities will be integrated into a single functional unit.
During the preparatory works, existing waterfront structures located along the alignment of the future connecting quay at the Dobrika and Rogač quays will be removed. Part of the material obtained through demolition and excavation works will be reused as backfill behind the new quay wall, while the remaining material will be disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.
The main project activities include:
- Construction of a new operational quay, 114 m in length;
- Construction of a 35 m long Ro-Ro ramp;
- Development of new cargo-handling and operational areas;
- Reconstruction of the existing railway track and associated infrastructure;
- Dredging of the basin to provide the conditions required for the safe operation of maritime traffic.
Upon completion, the Port of Šibenik cargo terminal will benefit from a modern operational quay that will increase the efficiency of port operations, enhance cargo-handling capacity, and create the conditions for the further development and competitiveness of the port.
The completion of all works is scheduled for October 2028 and will be financed through the state budget during the 2026–2028 period.
