CONSTRUCTION OF THE PELJEŠAC BRIDGE ALONG WITH ACCESS ROADS
The Pelješac Bridge along with access roads is being built between Komarna on the land side and Brijesta on the Pelješac peninsula, passing over the sea strait with a width of 2,140 metres. The length of the bridge from axis to axis of the abutments amounts to 2,404 metres, and where the total length of the bridge along with the abutments amounts to 2,404 metres. Along most of the canal width, the sea depth is approx. 27 metres. The Thoroughfare surface on the bridge comprises two carriage ways where each has a 3.5-metre-wide automobile lane, a 2.5-metre-wide service lane and two 0.50-metre-wide sides lanes.
The bridge is supported by a total of 12 pylons, of which 10 are positioned in the sea. The bridge is designed as a hybrid structure. The central system is the suspended bridge comprising 6 low-lying pylons and 5 central spans with lengths of 285 metres, in order to achieve complete physical symmetry of the bridge. The spanning system is fastened using oblique anchors along a level plain. The span structure is a steel box girder structure with a width of 22.50 metres.
Construction of the bridge establishes a systematic road link connecting all parts of the Croatian territory, which will lead to the development of Dubrovnik, the Pelješac peninsula and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
